Our Early 2023 AC Checklist

Our Early 2023 AC Checklist

We’ve been talking a lot about heaters this year, and that makes sense. We’ve only had cold months so far, but looking forward, it’s clear that we’ll need to transition at some point to talking about air conditioners. Many of our customers have both heating and cooling systems, and this time of year is especially tricky when figuring out when and how to bring the air conditioner out of hibernation.

So, let’s not make things complicated. How about we give you a seasonal checklist that can give you reminders on what to do and things to look for when you start setting up your AC system? If that helps, then we’re all for it!

Just make sure that any problems with your HVAC in Greenfield, Indiana get sent our way. Since it’s early in the season, we can make some quick repairs, maintenance visits, and even replacement appointments at your convenience.

A Checklist That Matters

We don’t like useless checklists. A checklist needs something actionable you can do right now. Otherwise, it’s easy to forget about the items and leave them for later. So, here are just a few things you can do right now to get your air conditioner ready for the spring and summer ahead.

  • Remove any coverings and dust. Let’s first start by doing a bit of housekeeping. Remove the cover from your air conditioner when you think that the snow and winter weather is finished. It’s a good idea to also remove dust from any ventilation parts of the outdoor cabinet. This will ensure maximum airflow.
  • Check for dents, critters, and debris. Has your air conditioner been damaged during the winter? You can usually tell by looking around for dents and other issues that would be caused by flying debris. This is also a good opportunity to find if there are any critters nesting inside of the system, so they can be removed.
  • Replace the air filter. Before anything, you’re going to want to replace the air filter in your system’s return air duct. This is a great way to get started on the right foot, since it’s easy to forget when the last time was that you replaced it.
  • Switch from heating to cooling when you’re ready. Head on over to the thermostat and make sure the system is switched from heating mode to cooling mode. This will make sure your home is actually cooling down and not heating up.
  • Listen for noises. When the system starts to run, keep your ears peeled for any unnerving sounds or stressful things like short cycling. This will clue you in that you need a repair.
  • Check the temperature. Check the temperature setting on your thermostat to see if the system is meeting your demands. If it’s not, then it could be some repair need that’s inhibiting the temperature control.
  • Schedule maintenance. Last but not least, schedule a maintenance appointment with one of our professionals so we can give you a final say on its condition.
